"That was the first time all season
that we've been able to run the full race distance at racing speed.
"Our pace was also satisfying, we made some changes to the
boat before this round and it was the strongest the boat has ever
been."
With three rounds remaining, the team will continue development
on the Red Bellies Racer, working to improve corner exit speed ahead
of round six to be held at Napier on April 14.
"Together with Dunrite, we're importing some new propellers
from America," Sanders said.
"At the moment, our top speed is on par with the other boats
in our class, but we are losing some ground coming out of corners.
"The new propellers will give us more speed coming out of
the corners and help us reach maximum speed a lot quicker, which
will all help in the remaining races."
Red Bellies Offshore Racing is supported by Seabreeze Hotel, Barwil
Unitor Ships Service, Mainlube, Always Stainless, Watersports Marine,
Total Fencing Solutions, Steve Cotton Painting, Hosting Impact and
Argo Engineering.
When not racing offshore powerboats, Bruce Sanders heads the Sanders
Group, based in New South Wales' Nelson Bay, which owns and manages
several hotels and motels in the region, including the Seabreeze
Hotel.
In 2006, Seabreeze Hotel was awarded 'Hotel of the Year', by the
Australian Independent Liquor Group, in recognition of the hotel's
high quality management, facilities and services.
